Automatic system for tray disinfection based on UV-C light. The usage of trays at the passenger security checkpoints is critical for transmitting germs in airports and other terminal facilities. Therefore, the implementation of disinfection systems is essential to ensure passengers safety.
Researchers from Nottingham University and the National Health Institute of Finland discovered that the plastic trays used at passenger security checkpoints in airports contain the highest level of pathogens. This discovery takes on particular importance given the pandemic emergency due to COVID-19 caused by SARS COV-2. The mentioned research was carried out in the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport during and after the massive surge of passengers by winter 2016. The researchers took samples of various surfaces to analyse the pathogens remaining in the most frequented areas.
